Yard Beauty

Various Flowers

We planted a variety of flowers in the front flower garden this year and the mixture of colors has been really wonderful. Normally we plant a lot of petunias and pansies in the front, but decided to try something a little different this year and I'm glad we did. In the front are "Profusion Five Color Mix" Zinnias. Behind them are purple and white petunias, the normal flower of choice. In the back are the tall bright "Red Hot Sally" Salvia's. I wasn't too sure about the Salvia's, but they look really nice as a backdrop to the shorter flowers up front.

I think my favorite flower in the yard however are the Red Day Lillies in the back yard just off our back deck. They stand about 3 feet tall and the flowers are big and bold. We have a red and purple one that set beside each other. The violet ones stopped blooming about a week ago, but these red ones just keep coming.

While I was out looking at the flowers in the yard and tomatoes in the garden, this beautiful blue butterfly flittered up and came to rest on the tomatoes and I was able to get this picture of it. What a beaut!
