The "White Stuff"

Yesterday the yard was mowed, thinking the coming frosts would make the grass go dormant and ready for winter. The farmers have been busy getting the soybeans harvested, but the corn still has a little longer before it's ready. The leaves on the trees were turning colors and some beginning to fall, even though the first frost just came in the middle of last week.

Saturday is our traditional day to sleep in and catch up on a little rest that was missed during the hustle of the previous week, and today was no exception. There was a strange crispness in the morning air and the floor seemed just a wee bit cooler than normal as I woke up. I looked out the window and what do I see? You guessed right if you said "snow." This week's weather reports had predicted a light snow for late Sunday evening, but it came a little early. I don't think it will last very long as it is pretty light, but nevertheless still snow.

I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots of the snow on various plants around the yard that still don't seem to know it is time to pass. It seems strange to see the flowers that were still blooming and trees with leaves covered with a dusting of snow.

You can see the snow on the flowers really well, but it's not as noticeable on the trees. Notice the street behind is just wet as the snow was not enough to accumulate there yet.

It makes me wonder how long it will be now before we get a serious dose of the "White Stuff". I'm not looking forward to that yet, but it will be here before we know it.
